Southwestern US
For three years I lived in Phoenix, Arizona. While Phoenix itself is the prototypical desert (but is much more than that!) it is the gateway to many diverse landscapes and geographies - especially in the northern part of Arizona. From red rock canyons to pine forests and snow capped mountains, the northern Arizona/southern Utah border area is a unique pocket of the nation that I absolutely love to travel through. On the border can be found the towns of Fredonia and Kanab, two towns seemingly lost in time. As one progresses towards the east, one will find the red rock buttes and mesas reminiscent of a John Ford western and, working further south, high elevation cool pine forests that seem absolutely foreign to the typical desert landscapes of Arizona.
